Hiv Integration Inhibitors An Effective Treatment For Hiv

HIV Integration Inhibitors: An Effective Treatment for HIV

Introduction

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that targets the immune system and weakens people's defense systems against infections and some types of cancer. One of the most effective treatments for HIV is a class of drugs called integrase inhibitors, which block the virus from multiplying in the body.

About Isentress

Isentress is a type of integrase inhibitor that is often used in combination with other HIV medications. It is part of a group of antiretroviral drugs that prevent HIV from replicating in the body.

How Isentress Works

Isentress works by blocking an enzyme called integrase, which the virus needs to insert its genetic material into the DNA of human cells. Without integrase, the virus cannot replicate and spread throughout the body.

Clinical Studies

Clinical studies have shown that Isentress is effective in reducing the amount of HIV in the body and improving immune function. In one study, people who were given Truvada with either Isentress or another HIV medication called efavirenz had a significantly lower risk of developing AIDS or other serious complications from HIV.

Usage

Isentress is typically taken once or twice daily with food. It can be used by adults and children who are at least 6 years old and weigh at least 35 pounds.
